At Barnyard Bison, our passion goes far beyond producing high-quality meat. It's about a profound commitment to the land, the health of our community, and the spirit of the bison itself. We are Richard and Shawna Wilkey, and we are proud to be a local, family-owned farm nestled in the beautiful countryside of Watertown, Wisconsin.

A Family Dream, Rooted in the Land

Our journey began with a vision in 2020 when we welcomed our first nine bison to the farm. What started as a heartfelt endeavor has now grown into a flourishing herd of around 30 head.

This farm is truly a labor of love, managed entirely by our family, driven by the desire to connect our local community with a healthy, historic source of protein.

Leadership and Community Focus

Our dedication extends beyond our own fence lines. Richard, known to many as Ricky, currently serves as the Vice President of the Wisconsin Bison Association.

Due to his leadership and our hands-on experience, our farm has become a resource for others. We are proud that our social media page is used by many aspiring farmers who are interested in starting their own bison operation, and Ricky is happy to share his knowledge and guidance to help the entire industry grow.

The Commitment to Quality

We believe that the way an animal is raised directly impacts the quality of the meat and the health of the land. Our herd is managed using rotational grazing, a natural, sustainable approach that ensures the wellbeing of our animals while actively restoring and regenerating the pastures.

This commitment means our bison are 100% grass-fed, resulting in a lean, nutrient-dense product known as America's Original Red Meat.
